The database used for this app tabulates data that aim to capture different dimensions of platform regulation, focusing specifically on privacy regulation, content regulation, and competition regulation. The data is codified from legal reports and expert opinions on various countries' approaches to digital regulation. It covers G20 countries plus five additional countries with high internet penetration rates, examining multiple dimensions of their regulatory frameworks.
The resulting structural database represents aspects of regulation, connecting each data point to the country, the information source, and quotes from that source. This database links several facets of regulation, including core "concepts" of regulation, "enforcement" measures, and "regulatory requirements" for key stakeholders. The privacy regulation section consists of about 70 variables, the competition regulation section has 30, and the content regulation section includes 43 variables per jurisdiction. Organized into approximately 6,100 rows across 9 tables, this dataset enables analysis through the following research questions:
- RQ #1: How do privacy, content, and competition regulation approaches vary across the studied jurisdictions, and what are the underlying factors driving these differences?
- RQ #2: What impacts do the regulatory requirements captured in the database have on key digital market stakeholders within these jurisdictions, especially regarding fostering competition, ensuring privacy, and managing content?
This website displays the content of the database. Data is agrregated into thematics.
You can see data using the map and selecting a specific variable for a given thematic. If you need informations
into a single country or a set of country, the database page is designed to filter the informations and countries
for which you need to check the informations. Note that you can also export the whole page into a csv, or export
the subset of selected variables and countries. Finally, you can select a country to have all the informations needed
about the actors and variables of a given country.
All the data from this database is sourced, and you can select a variable to see where the information comes from.
